What Type of Exercise Clothing Should You Wear?

The time of day, the season, and the location should all be factors when selecting proper exercise clothing. This is in addition to the type of exercise routine you do. For best results, you should have workout clothes that are designed for each of the different situations you expect to be in throughout the year. Both women and men need to wear the right clothing. Wearing the proper workout clothes for your exercise routine can keep you comfortable and make working out easier. This, in turn, can help you stick to your routine all year long.

For those who like to exercise outdoors, you'll need to adapt your wardrobe for the winter months. This includes adding pieces that will keep your neck, hands, and head warm. Also, opt for layers of clothing instead of just something heavier. The bottom layer should be one that pulls moisture away from you. Make sure to cover that with a layer of clothing that insulates, to keep you warm. Check out these great trainer workout pants. Exercising in the rain or snow requires another layer to keep moisture off you.

Nighttime joggers need to be particularly careful about safety as well as comfort. Even in places with streetlamps or other lighting, pedestrians can be hard for drivers to spot. Look for clothing designed for nighttime exercise, such as shirts and pants with reflective panels, to help avoid accidents. Alternately, you can wear lighter colored clothing.

If you'll be exercising in a climate controlled area, you can be less picky about what you wear. Your clothes should still meet certain basic guidelines, however. Look for moisture wicking clothing to keep you dry, including shirts, shorts, pants, and socks. Your clothing should also allow for good range of motion, so go with something loose fitting or something more fitted but flexible. Depending on the type of training you do, you might also think about compression clothing.

Working out in public, like at a yoga studio or in a gym, requires a different standard. When you exercise, you'll be placing your body in positions that you don't normally have to plan for with everyday clothing. While exposing yourself in the privacy of your own home is fine, it is less acceptable in public, so make sure your exercise clothing provides proper coverage in all positions. If they don't, wear appropriate underclothing or look for something that will offer more coverage. Visit tenagasports.com for more information.

Lastly, the shoes you wear are also important. Good athletic shoes designed for running or general exercise are your best bet. You want something that will provide good foot support while also protecting your toes. This is particularly important when exercising outdoors or in a gym, where dropped weights or environmental hazards can pose risks for bare or under-covered feet.
